The Importance of a Healthy Body
At the Healthy Being we focus on three pillars: A Clear Mind, A Healthy Body, and a Pure Soul. They work in harmony with each other, and the body may well be the most important of the three. If your body isn’t in good condition, it’s almost impossible to achieve the other two parts.
Getting a Healthy Body doesn’t mean that everyone has to be a top athlete. Often basic simple steps in the right direction, done consistently will get the wanted results.
As they say, your body is your temple.

What defines a healthy body?
A healthy body, again not necessarily that of a top athlete, is based on these four important factors. You will almost immediately see changes and feel better if taken care of.
First and foremost, good nutrition. You can see the food that you take in as the building blocks for your body. Billions of your cells renew every day. Some cells like liver cells, totally regenerate every 300 days, while others, like our fat storage cells only regenerate once every decade. Our cells are built from the fuel that we take in, so take care of your nutrition!

Second, our bodies need enough exercise. We were never meant to have the immobile lives that a lot of us currently have. Wake up, drive to work, sit at a desk, and relax on the sofa after dinner. Third, a good night’s sleep. Sleep is extremely important for us. During our sleep, we regenerate our body, and all sorts of mechanisms are in place that helps prevent chronic deseases, decrease inflammation and even help with keeping our weight under control! And contrary to our body, the brain is extremely active during our sleep, creating new neuron paths.
Lastly, relaxation. In our modern world, we are always racing to get things done, get to appointments, meet work deadlines, have an active social life, and perhaps even a second job or a side-hustle. All of these increase the stress that we have in our bodies, and while not all stress is bad, being in a constant state of stress definitely is. By relaxing, we can diminish the stress hormones in our bodies, and it reduces blood pressure and tension.
If you work on these four factors, you will start becoming more healthy within no time. But how can we work towards achieving these? Let’s dive deeper into the subjects.
Nutrition
What can a healthy diet look like?
In addition to a balanced diet, which means you eat a whole range of foods, the following things also play an important role:
Pay attention to your needs, and only eat when you consciously have the time to eat. Don’t mindlessly snack on whatever is in front of you! And when you do eat, chew your food properly. It’s unhealthy to wolf down the food. Well chewed food makes the work of your intestines easier. Try to concentrate only on eating when you are eating, all distractions such as cell phones distract from the body’s satiety signal.
Besides the way we eat food, we should also pay attention to the time intervals between meals. A meal needs at least 4 hours to be completely digested. If you eat constantly without digesting, you damage your blood sugar level in the long run. Everyone should pay attention to their body individually and see if he better tolerates 3 large meals or 2 with snacks in between – Again, going back to the old times when we roamed the savannahs and only ate once or twice a day, and sometimes some berries in between. Our body is evolved to work that way, don’t fight it! Fun fact – Breakfast originated from the words breaking the fast! We don’t need (junk)food continuously throughout the day.
Also note that a healthy diet is not aimed at losing weight, it means that you meet all the needs of your body and thus feel comfortable and fit in it.
Balanced, healthy meals with fresh, regional products taste good and also strengthen the body. It gives the body energy and well-being. A healthy diet is based on a balanced mix of fresh foods. Natural, high-quality foods provide the body with valuable vital substances and do not burden it.
There is some disagreement about what the best diet is, but it is clear that you mainly eat fresh and unprocessed foods. Do not eat too much of one category. Too much meat and fish is just as unhealthy in the long run as too much fiber or dairy products. Fruit and vegetables should be on the daily nutrition plan. all essential nutrients should be covered by the diet. The five nutrients that the body needs to survive are carbohydrates, proteins, fats, Vitamins, and minerals.
Carbohydrates provide the body with glucose, which is converted to energy used to support bodily functions and physical activity.
Proteins enable body tissue to be formed (that’s why they are so high on the list of people trying to ‘buff up’), but they also help with creating enzymes and some hormones.
Fats are needed for building cell walls, absorbing and converting certain vitamins in the body, and storing energy for when we need it the most.
Vitamins A-K ensures the functioning of the metabolism. Vitamins strengthen the immune system and are essential for building blood cells, cells, teeth, and bones.
And lastly, Minerals: Calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, sodium, iron, and iodine are the most important. Nothing works in the body without these minerals. Minerals are needed in metabolism, growth, blood formation, or the interaction of nerves and muscles.

The importance of Exercise
Why is it important for the body to move regularly?
As mentioned earlier, our body is designed to move and not sit all day long.
Half an hour of light exercise a day should be the bare minimum. This can include going for a walk (preferably in nature!) or working out at home or in the gym.
Regular exercise ensures a good immune system, a healthier heart, and more stamina. Basically, all the things to become fitter and less prone to sickness.
Exercise also promotes stronger muscles, This helps to develop good posture and relieve back pain. You’ll have more stability, balance, and flexibility, making injuries and falls less likely.
Perhaps one of the important reasons to become the best version of yourself is that exercise also releases hormones that make you feel better, reducing stress hormones. It literally makes you a happier person!
Regular physical activity makes you stronger and fitter and increases your endurance. Exercise supplies your tissues with oxygen and nutrients and helps your cardiovascular system to work more efficiently. And when your heart and lung health improves, you’ll have more energy to tackle daily tasks. Regular physical activity can also help you fall asleep faster and sleep better. The body will be less restless, and you’ll sleep like a baby. However, don’t exercise too close to bedtime, or you may be too energetic to sleep.
Why is a good night’s rest vital to a healthy body?
We have already touched on some points of the importance of a good night’s sleep. Your body is able to regenerate while your brain can properly work on all its functions, especially during REM sleep. A good REM sleep actually makes you smarter! In addition, the brain processes and stores the impressions of the day.
The necessary sleep requirement of a person is individual and depends on several factors such as genes, age, and state of health. Generally, most people need between 7 and 9 hours a night to be fully rested.
The immune system, digestion, cardiovascular system, and nervous system all need sleep to regenerate.
Being fully rested has a significant impact on being able to concentrate and react well, remember new things, and form memories. It has a positive effect on your feelings and your mood. Healthy sleep promotes performance and helps to prevent health problems.

So be sure to get those hours in at night! If you struggle with falling asleep and waking up energized, focus on getting into a routine before going to bed (no more electronic devices but reading a book), and get into the habit of going to bed and waking up at the same time every day.
How Relaxation makes you healthier
Stress is the foundation on which disease and physical imbalances arise. Therefore regular relaxation phases are particularly important. But stress is not just about work-related stress. In total, there are 3 types of stress.
The most common and dangerous stress in the western world is mental and emotional stress. Because your nervous system doesn’t know the difference between a situation that you only imagine in your head and a real situation. The second type of stress is physical stress. We get physical stress when we work too much, for example, when you have to stand at your job for 8 hours in a row. But also, physical exercise can lead to stress. Working out is good, see the paragraph above, but too much manual labor can induce stress.
Lastly, we have chemical-induced stress. This type of stress gets into our body when we drink too much alcohol, smoke too many cigarettes, or eat too much unhealthy and processed food. The body simply doesn’t like it and has to work hard to fight off all the unwanted intruders. Yes, a glass of red wine may be healthy, but indulging in a weekend binge drink fest burdens the body in numerous ways, so try to keep it in check.
Find your form of relaxation that gives you joy and that makes you feel like it works. You should find a routine and set aside at least 20 minutes a day for some relaxation. And don’t punish yourself too much when you have a cheat day. That’s only human, but try not to let a bad day turn into a bad week. Or a bad week into a bad month. You don’t have to let it become a shipwreck!
A former coach of mine once told me never let one bad day turn into 2. Skipped exercise yesterday? Then really make an effort not to skip it today. Did you have some junk food the day before, then go out of your way to make a healthy homemade dish the next day.
